Hi, I'm Aften - Earl's favorite daughter (don't tell Ariel). I'm not a blogger, but decided to put this together 1. To help myself get through this process (selfish I know) 2. To provide a central outlet for information, prayers, encouraging thoughts, jokes and comments (make a few of them sarcastic too - you know how dad likes to BS) and 3. Because I know dad is going to love reading this one day as we look back on this time and say...yeah, that was scary, but you kicked some serious cancer ass!

Back at Barnes - Trouble Swallowing
I was just getting ready to post a positive update this past week - Dad had almost been on the chemo drug for 2 weeks and although he was feeling some of the side effects they seemed to be more manageable than we anticipated and his leg pain was becoming even more easily controlled with pain meds. However, throughout the night Friday night, Dad was complaining of swollen and achy feet and trouble swallowing. After having trouble swallowing water, he and Mom headed to the Breese ER. The doctors thought this could be an allergic reaction to the chemo drug (reactions can show up a few weeks after starting the drug) They transferred Dad to Barnes where the doctors are more familiar with the med and his case. Since its a weekend, you have to sit and wait..most of the doctors who will evaluate and diagnose are out. The swelling in his feet has subsided, but he is still unable to swallow, so for now his pain meds, fluids etc are being administered via IV. Hopefully tomorrow we will get some answers and get the issues under control. Dad has not been feeling up to visitors, but we could really use some prayers again - hopefully he will be able to get out quickly this time, in time to enjoy Thanksgiving.. Thanks again for the prayers and support.

We will remember your dad in our prayers and put him of several prayer lists that we always use. Hope he is feeling better real soon!
