Well...the PET scan revealed tiny "spots" on Dad's bones and deep tissues in a few areas - collar bone, chest/back and lower left abdomen. I guess the good thing is the spots were tiny enough that they didn't show up on the whole body CT scan, just the PET scan, but they are melanoma nonetheless.
The plan is to meet with the Doctors again July 15th and start the BRAF drug. This is a drug that has been very effective for melanoma patients who are BRAF positive (which Dad is). It's not proven that this drug crosses the brain barrier and it's still unknown how long the drug lasts before the cancer cells "out smart" the drug, but the Doctors feel it is the best treatment route. Dad is in good spirits and ready to start the treatment. The thought is that he will start the drug before Hawaii, not take it on the trip, but immediately pick it up again when we return. We'll here the definite plan when we return for the next appointment on July 15th.
Thanks so muchfor the prayers - please keep them coming
